Get your free estimateLennox Thermostat Installation: The Sandy Springs Owner’s Guide
A Lennox thermostat installation in Sandy Springs typically runs $180 – $420 installed, depending on which Lennox model you’re pairing it with and whether we’re doing a straight swap or pulling new thermostat wire. We stock Lennox-compatible smart and programmable thermostats on our trucks, so most homes near Abernathy Road or north of the river can get this handled same-day. Most owners figure out their thermostat has failed the hard way: the display goes blank, the AC keeps running after the house hits temperature, or the heat won’t kick on during one of those damp Georgia mornings when you actually need it.
Here’s what you need to know before you spend a dollar, including which Lennox systems get fussy about thermostat compatibility and what a fair installed price actually looks like in Sandy Springs.
Which Lennox Models This Applies To
Lennox has used several different control protocols over the years, and this is where we see the most compatibility mistakes. If you have a Lennox iComfort S30, E30, or M30 communicating thermostat, that’s a proprietary system that talks digitally to your furnace or air handler. You can’t just slap a Honeywell on it and expect the variable-speed blower to behave. For those, the replacement needs to be a Lennox communicating thermostat, or you need a full rewiring job and you’ll lose some of the staging features.
The good news: older Lennox systems using conventional 24-volt wiring, which is most single-stage and two-stage furnaces and ACs built before roughly 2018, will accept a wide range of thermostats. The model plate on your existing thermostat, usually behind the faceplate, tells us everything. If it says iComfort on it, plan for a Lennox-specific part. If it says something like a ComfortSense 5500 or a generic Honeywell, you’ve got more options. One Sandy Springs-specific reality: homes built in the 1990s and 2000s along the Roswell Road corridor often have thermostat wire with too few conductors for modern smart thermostats that need a common wire. We check that before recommending anything.

Signs Your Lennox Thermostat Installation Is Failing
- Blank or flickering display. This often points to a power delivery problem: dead batteries, a tripped breaker on the furnace, or a failed common wire connection. Sometimes it’s the backlight circuit in the thermostat itself giving up, which is a part failure, not a system failure.
- System short-cycling or running constantly. If your AC kicks on for three minutes, shuts off, then kicks on again ten minutes later, the thermostat’s temperature sensor or anticipator settings may have drifted. Sandy Springs humidity makes short-cycling worse because the coil never gets a chance to pull moisture out.
- Wrong temperature readings. A thermostat that reads 78 degrees when the house is clearly 72 has a failing thermistor. We see this more in homes where the thermostat sits on an exterior wall or gets afternoon sun through a west-facing window, which throws the reading off even on a healthy unit.
- No response to temperature changes. You set it to 70, nothing happens. You set it to 68, still nothing. That’s often a failed relay on the thermostat board, not a problem with your furnace or AC. The control voltage never gets sent to the equipment.
- System runs heat and AC at the same time, or neither. Crossed or shorted thermostat wires will do this. It can also happen after a dog chews through low-voltage wire in a crawl space, which we’ve found more than once in older Sandy Springs homes.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In Sandy Springs, a basic Lennox-compatible programmable thermostat install runs $180 – $240. A smart thermostat with Wi-Fi, like an ecobee or a Lennox iComfort E30 on a compatible system, runs $290 – $420 installed. If we need to pull new thermostat wire, add $75 – $150 depending on the run. Every quote is in writing before we start, so the number we hand you is the number you pay.
That installed price includes the thermostat itself, mounting, wiring checks, system compatibility testing, and programming. It also includes the Dalton Heating & Air guarantee: if that thermostat or our work fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. Our techs are factory-trained on nine major brands including Lennox, so you’re not getting a YouTube-certified install. Marco Benitez has seen enough botched thermostat wire jobs in his two decades of work across the Southeast to know exactly where corners get cut, and his crew doesn’t cut them.

AfterDIY or Call Us?
A thermostat swap is one of the few HVAC jobs a handy homeowner can sometimes pull off safely, provided we’re talking about a low-voltage thermostat and not a line-voltage unit that controls electric baseboard heat, which is a different animal entirely and can deliver a serious shock. That said, the low-voltage side still has real failure points: if you cross the wrong wires at the control board, you can blow a transformer or a fuse on the furnace, and now your $200 thermostat job is a $400 furnace board repair.
Here’s our honest take. If you’re comfortable with wiring, you can check the breaker, check the batteries, and confirm whether your old thermostat has a C wire before you buy anything. Where DIY goes wrong on Lennox systems specifically is with communicating thermostats, which have polarity-sensitive connections and proprietary communication protocols. If your old thermostat says iComfort on it, don’t guess. Call us at (478) 400-5908 and we’ll tell you exactly what you’re looking at for parts and labor, in writing, before anything starts.
FAQs
Most thermostats last 10 – 15 years before the relay contacts or temperature sensor start to drift, though smart thermostats with Wi-Fi can fail earlier on the connection side, especially during Georgia thunderstorm season when power blips are common.
Rarely, unless it’s a simple battery or wiring issue. Thermostat circuit boards aren’t serviceable parts. Once the relay or sensor goes, replacement is the only reliable fix, and given how affordable a new unit is compared to a furnace control board, replacement is almost always the smarter call.
A straight swap takes 45 – 90 minutes. If we’re pulling new wire or setting up a communicating Lennox thermostat with full system configuration, plan for two hours. We show up inside the window we give you, not a four-hour span.
Yes. We carry Lennox iComfort E30 and M30 units, plus several Wi-Fi and programmable options that work with Lennox conventional 24-volt systems. We also stock thermostat wire, common wire adapters, and the small parts that save a second trip. For Carrier and Trane systems, we carry compatible replacements as well.
